Earlier at 8:30AM volunteers from the Southern CT State University, Moving With HOPE, Inc., CT Chapter of NSCIA, and 7 local title holders from the Miss Connecticut Scholarship Organization. The volunteers helped with site setup and take down. There were many signs posted along the Riverwalk that promoted good nutrition and exercise. They worked at the registration at the Farmers Market, help set up the displays and tables for raffle items in the new Pavilion at the Riverwalk, and passed out raffle tickets to participants as they completed loops. Miss Connecticut''s Outstanding Teen, Jaine'' Coann Lefebvre, along with several of our local titleholders, also joined in many pictures with participants.
This year we had two major sponsors the Life Designs Fitness and Wellness Center and The CT Valley Community Foundation.
Mid way through the event the participants all walked up Howe Avenue and gathered around to listen to the Mayor of Shelton Mark Lauretti give a proclamation of October 7, 2012 as Wheeling and Able... Shelton Riverwalk Wheel/Walk for Fitness Day.
The were many raffle items that people were able to win for just participating in the event. A participant received 1 raffle ticket for each lap they completed during the event. Just before the raffle began we did allow for some tickets to be sold and entered in.
We had a beautiful painting which is one of the last created by a man with MS. The couple who won the painting had it framed and is hung in their home. There were multiple multipurpose Backpacks that were raffled off that were donated by the NSCIA.
A $50 gift card to VERACE in Shelton, Two Welcome Stones were donated by Todd A. Johnston, VP of Resource for CT-NSCIA and the engraving was donated by Holly Hegamen owner of Ridgetop Engraving, LLC. A $50 Photo Gift Card. and many other items.
The Miss Connecticut Scholarship Organization was proud to partner with "Wheeling and Able Shelton River wheel/walk for Fitness, Promoting Health and Fitness for Everyone." During the event, Miss Connecticut''s Outstanding Teen, Jaine'' Coann Lefebvre, along with several of our local titleholders, were integrally involved in the walk: recruiting participants, counting laps, helping with raffle, signing autographs and spreading words of encouragement to the participants. One of the founding principles on which the Miss America Organization is based is service, and our young women are excited to be a part of this meaningful event and to help spread the message of promoting health and fitness for everyone.
