Dear Connecticut Wheelchair Users and Allies,
On February 15th, wheelchair users from across the state need you to join them in-person from 12:30-2pm in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) 2nd Floor Atrium at 300 Capitol Ave #5100, Hartford, CT. Advocates will start gathering at noon or sooner in the LOB cafeteria (1st floor). DO NOT bring signs. Together, we will support the transformational recommendations by the legislative Wheelchair Repair Task Force to tackle the absurd delays faced by 90% of roughly 5,000 CT consumers. Wheelchair user advocates from the task force are pushing for legislation that...
1. Requires In-home assessments and repairs each to be completed within 4 business days after parts have been received.
2. Eliminates the need for prior authorization for all wheelchair repairs by state-regulated insurance (Medicaid and fully-insured health plans).
3. Guarantees state-regulated insurance coverage for preventative maintenance and repairs for primary and backup wheelchairs, overnight delivery of parts, in-home technicians' travel, and consumers' transportation services for in-shop visits.
4. Supports consumers to purchase some parts directly from manufacturers.
These changes could bring total in-home repair wait times down from 2 months to 2 weeks!
Sign up here to attend the event in-person or virtually (we'll be streaming on Facebook Live), or to get on the list for future instructions on sending a letter, email, or calling your legislators. Transportation may be available: https://bit.ly/REPAIRMYCHAIR2024CT-2-15
