5th Annual NSCIA CT Twilight Gala is a Smashing Success

8/28/2014 12:00:00 AM

The National Spinal Cord Injury Association Connecticut Chapter (NSCIA CT) held its 5th Annual Twilight Gala on March 8th, 2014 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Connecticut.

WTNH's Jocelyn Maminta and former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrandThe evening’s emcee was Emmy Award nominated News 8 Medical reporter Jocelyn Maminta. The guest speaker was former Rutgers University football player Eric LeGrand who suffered a spinal cord injury while playing against Army on October 16th 2010.

Jocelyn conducted an on-site interview with Eric. He provided the audience with a source of inspiration, hope, and perseverance as he discussed how he was injured, the rehab he went through, what his current life looks like, and the goals he has set forward.

The event raised more than $30,000.00 for the organization to continue provide support and resources to the spinal cord injury community in Connecticut. Attendees had an opportunity to make donations directly towards the NSCIA CT Chapter Quality of Life Grants through a live auction.  A special thanks to all that contributed to the grant fund and purchased a signed copy of Eric’s Sports Illustrated cover.

With the money earned, the NSCIA CT Chapter will continue to improve its current programs. Adding more support programs throughout the state will be a huge undertaking and the money generated will go a long way.  In addition, this money will increase the number of grants the organization will award.

The Gala Committee would like to thank all that attended. We hope to see you next year on March 7th, 2015.
