The National Spinal Cord Injury Association Connecticut Chapter (NSCIA CT) held its 4th Annual Twilight Gala on March 9, 2013 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Connecticut. The event was hosted by Brad Field, NBC Connecticut’s Chief Meteorologist, and honored Paul Nitz, a four-time member of the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field Team, who won three consecutive Gold Medals at the International Paralympic Games.
The event raised more than $25,000.00 for the organization to continue provide support and resources to the spinal cord injury community in Connecticut. Attendees had an opportunity to make donations directly towards the NSCIA CT Chapter Quality of Life Grants through a live auction. A special thanks to Dr. Subramani Seetharama for his contribution.
Paul Nitz discussed how sports have been the driving force in dealing with his spinal cord injury. Paul who was born with a spinal cord injury grew up playing basketball, indoor hockey, football and track. He motivated everyone with his athletic accomplishments. Paul won consecutive gold medals in the 100 meter race at the 1992, 1996, 2000 Paralympic Games. Including setting a new world record at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, GA.
With the money earned the NSCIA CT Chapter will continue to improve its current programs. Adding more support programs throughout the state will be a huge undertaking and the money generated will go a long way. In addition, this money will increase the number of grants the organization will award.
The Gala Committee would like to thank all that attended. We hope to see you next year.
