Easter Seals Opens Mobilty Center

5/20/2009 12:00:00 AM

The Easter Seals of Connecticut has created a Mobility Center to help people with disabilities drive.

The Easter Seals Mobility Center provides pre-driving screenings, car evaluations and van evaluations in order to determine if an individual can safely operate a motor vehicle.

In addition, the Center provides engineering inspections and testing of modified vehicles and engineering consultation regarding vehicle modification issues.

The Mobility Center also evaluates and recommends appropriate equipment and vehicles for a person to ride as a passenger. Prescriptions are prepared for vehicle modifications and driving equipment.

For those needing a van, the Mobility Center’s minivan is adapted with an IMS dropped floor conversion with a side entry ramp. It can be driven from the driver’s seat or a wheelchair, and it is adapted with multiple equipment configurations and high tech steering and braking systems. The Mobility Center has been named the only state approved vendor site serving clients of the Connecticut Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission clients.

For more information, please call the Easter Seals Mobility Center at 203.237.7835.
